Coda is the love child of the most famous writing program you’ve never heard of—The Writers’ Institute at the CUNY Graduate Center on Fifth Avenue, New York City.

As you may have heard, New York is the publishing capital of the world. And the WI is taught by its titans—the most famous fiction editors known to the human race.

We’re not kidding.

The fiction editors of The New Yorker, Granta, One Story and Harper’s. Nobel prize winner Orhan Pamuk’s editor. The president of Farrar, Straus and Giroux—a bona fide publishing rock star. All have taught or currently teach at the WI.

And they have spawned a community of ideas, storytelling and argument that naturally needed a place to spill over.

Hence Coda.

We seek stories—fiction, non-fiction and all points between—poems, essays and art from both inside the WI community and without. We welcome both famous writers and the never before published.

And each issue we aim to include the publishing wisdom of one or more of the WI’s famous editors.

Join us—especially if you have a passionate point of view about literature, art, culture. We’re not afraid to get our pants dirty.
